Kitchen Remodeling in Los Angeles

General Ideas, Designs & Mistakes

Everyone loves a nice kitchen because it truly is the heart of the home. It's a place for the kids to do homework while you make dinner, or an at-home date with a loved one, or most important, a place for guests to hang out while you prepare drinks and food. Since most of the family time is in the kitchen, it would be a wise investment to do a little Los Angeles kitchen remodeling.
Start of with what you want, a couple of ideas right off the bat that you can build color schemes and themes off of. Here are a few just to get you started; lighting is also very crucial because bad lighting can make a room look much smaller than it really is, and it also sets the mood for any occasion. You could modernize your home by installing a shelf above your sink window (or install a sink window first if you don't have one) and filling it with some colorful vases and flowers. If you have enough space in your kitchen you should consider putting in an island, it's incredibly versatile and it is worth it because you can do your cooking and hang out with friends, kids, or your spouse and you can decorate it and base your kitchen decor off of that because it's the centerpiece of your kitchen. Lastly, if you really want to bring some life to your kitchen try getting a tank of fish! It brings color and it brightens the entire kitchen immediately. So once you have a theme or general idea to bring every aspect of the kitchen into place continue to the next step.
After you know what you want, the hard part is to determine the style and design you want your kitchen to have. You need to keep in mind the rest of the house during this step because you can't have too modern a kitchen in an old-style country home for example. Designing is more colors, appliances, counter-tops, etc. You really want the colors in the kitchen to be bright and welcoming or mild and comforting; it shouldn't be too obnoxious. Some generally nice colors for kitchens can vary depending on the direction of the Los Angeles kitchen remodeling; This includes berry, soft pink, peach, tan or black and white. After you know the color you want, think about if you want solid or patterned or both. The next step would be cabinets, you need to pick the material and color; keep in mind that this step could also be the first step: if you know what cabinets you want you can base everything on that or vice versa with the color scheme: if you know the color you want for your kitchen, you can base everything else on that. Next come the counter-tops, the type you want really depends on the style of your kitchen, so this is really your choice of granite, glass, wood, etc. After this is done, make sure your appliances are the right material for your kitchen and that they do match. Last but certainly not least, flooring. You have endless options here but once again it depends on the rest of the kitchen and that's why it's the last step.
Finally we come to the most common mistakes in kitchen remodeling. Honestly the worst thing you can do is get in over your head. Many people looking to do kitchen remodeling, or any Los Angeles home remodeling really, tend to underestimate schedule and cost. Before you do anything contact a local company you've researched and consult with them. Get an idea of what you are going to be getting yourself into. Also another problem is when you update the kitchen but you neglect to update plumbing and electric needs; you have to make sure everything is up to code. Ventilation and safety is also another very neglected issue, like making sure the floors are non-skid and that the new range in your kitchen has adequate ventilation. PERMITS!!! DO NOT FORGET THESE, if something happens and you don't have the necessary permits, your insurance will NOT cover it! The most important thing is to make sure you do not at allllll want to do DIY on most, if not all, of these projects, chances are you're not an electrician, general contractor, or plumber, so call professionals!
I will be covering more of these ideas, designs, and mistakes in depth in the next couple of days, so keep updated! Happy Home Remodeling Los Angeles!
